“Being a Server Means Serving God and God’s People at Mass.”
The role of the Altar Server is to assist the priest at the Mass. At OLMM, the Altar Servers are boys and girls who have completed religious education to receive First Holy Communion and other sacraments according to their age, who receive training and spiritual advice to assist the celebrant in Weekday and Sunday Masses and other solemnities. The Altar Servers provide a very important service throughout the liturgy. Altar Servers must be registered members of the parish of OLMM and require liturgical preparation before beginning to serve. Training and visibility make altar servers role models for the entire congregation, so servers are well prepared in the parts of the Liturgy, the Order of the Mass, proper decorum, and care for the sacred articles and garments.
Some important duties are: carrying the crucifix and candles in the entrance and exit procession, helping in the preparation of the offering, presenting the prayer books to the celebrant, etc.
